Jacob Bates Founder & Co-Owner
I graduated from high school in 2015. I KNEW that college wasn't the route for me in life. There had to be an entrepreneur, but I didn't know how or doing what. Not only did I want to be an entrepreneur, but I wanted to surround myself with other entrepreneurs that I could help and who could help me.
In 2015, I was hired to help source for an Amazon FBA business. This was my introduction to entrepreneurship. I sourced every day for 12-14 hours a day. In 2016, I found Merch by Amazon. In 2016, I started designing and selling on Merch By Amazon.
Finally, in 2017, I went all in as an entrepreneur. I started MerchJuice.com providing designs for others while also building my own Merch and POD business. I have been addicted to the opportunity, the community, teaching others what I know, helping others also become entrepreneurs, all while also learning many new things myself.
At the end of 2018 I began to work on Createspace and then KDP. I love Merch, but I have so much fun teaching others about KDP, creating and assisting with KDP and POD automation, all while building my own KDP business. The fun is also in all the different things that can be created on the platform with different interiors and covers. There are a million ways and things to do within KDP.
I have been blessed to coach and mentor over 1,000 entrepreneurs in Merch and KDP. Also, I am blessed to be the administrator of multiple KDP and Merch Facebook groups with over 15,000 members. I love helping people along the way. That is what motivates me and keeps me going.
In the fall of 2019, I married my sweetheart of 4 years. We live in Columbus, Ohio. We have cats and love to go 4-wheeling around in the hills.
I retired from the Army Nov 2018 after 30 years of service as a CW3 and a Counterintelligence Agent. While serving, I deployed to 3 different wars, (Gulf War 91/Bosnia War 01/Iraqi Freedom 03-04). I am a 100% Disabled Veteran.
I have been fortunate to teach and mentor entrepreneurs as a Dale Carnegie Institute Instructor for 2 years. Before going into Active Duty with the Army I had my own business as a subcontractor for Sears managing their credit application processes. I also was a partner in a mortgage firm and a headhunter agency. When I answered the call to serve in the Army full time, being an entrepreneur had to end.
In preparation to retire from the Army, I found the Amazon opportunity as a Fulfillment by Amazon seller. I successfully sold on FBA for 3 years, until I became a partner with Jacob. Through FBA, I was introduced to Merch by Amazon. I loved the MBA and Print on Demand opportunity, so that I could spend more time at home with my family.
Through MBA, I was introduced to Jacob, Merch Juice, and KDP. At first, Jacob coached me. But as we worked together we found that we had common goals, interests, desires, and vision. In April 2018, we created an LLC to support anyone and everyone in building their own business.
In 1995, I married my wife (I am still very much in love, and we spend as much time together as possible). We have four children, 2 boys (21/10) and 2 girls (8/6). We struggled with infertility, which is why the age gap. Our first son was doctor assisted and biological. Our middle two are embryo adoption from two different couples. Our last finally came on her own naturally. We are thankful and blessed. We live in Salt Lake City, UT.
